FAQs About ABA Therapy
What Is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is the leading treatment for autism. An ABA program teaches skills that can be used in day-to-day life. Through 1-on-therapy sessions, people with ASD can improve their social skills, function better, and become more independent. Furthermore, ABA can decrease behavioral issues such as aggression.
What Are the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis?
- Environmental factors influence behaviors.
- Consequences can strengthen or weaken behaviors.
- Positive consequences, rather than negative ones, are more effective in changing behavior.
- Behaviors must be reinforced or disciplined to make socially significant changes.
Is ABA a Good Treatment?
The American Psychological Association (APA) considers Applied Behavioral Analysis an evidence-based practice. This means the ABA approach has been scientifically tested and proven effective. ABA is considered a leading treatment for autism.
How Does Applied Behavior Analysis Work?
A person is more likely to repeat an action when it is followed by something they appreciate (a reward). This eventually promotes constructive behavior modification. The therapist first determines the goal behavior. The individual receives a reward when they apply the behavior or skill correctly.
Areas We Serve
We proudly serve and provide ABA therapy in Northern California and Contra Costa, Marin and Solano counties. If you are looking for a trusted center for treatments for autism and ABA therapy, we also offer online appointments to fit your schedule. Get in touch with our friendly staff.
