Frequently Asked Questions about ABA

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is the leading treatment for autism. An ABA program teaches skills that can be used in day-to-day life. Through 1-on-therapy sessions, people with ASD can improve their social skills, function better, and become more independent. Furthermore, ABA can decrease behavioral issues such as aggression.

What Are the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis?

  1. Environmental factors influence behaviors.
  2. Consequences can strengthen or weaken behaviors.
  3. Positive consequences, rather than negative ones, are more effective in changing behavior.
  4. In order to make socially significant changes, behaviors must be reinforced or disciplined.

Is ABA a Good Treatment?

The American Psychological Association (APA) considers Applied Behavioral Analysis an evidence-based practice. This means the ABA approach has been scientifically tested and proven to be effective. ABA is considered a leading treatment for autism.
